The status are reflecting the current stage of the Project, Phase or Task. Status are used for management reporting and monitoring purposes.

New : Not started working

In Progress : Working in Progress

On Hold : Hold due to Some internal / external reasons

Done : Completed the job 

Canceled : Canceled as its no more required.
